This module addresses Master I students. It aims at enabling them critically reflect on the concept of American Literature. With this in mind, I thought it is important to introduce them to the major historical periods and important stations that marked the evolution of modern American literature. The analysis and interpretation of key texts covering colonial and post-revolutionary periods are, therefore, crucial in understanding how it evolved to what it is now. Notwithstanding, students should understand that American literature did not develop in isolation from the evolution of American identities and the broader ideologies the United States boasts. That is why, the main exponents of this module are devised in a way that allows students a large room of opportunity, through the varied and diverse activities suggested, to effectively engage and reflect on the concepts of race, gender, religion…etc. that marked U.S. history.
